New Star Trek: Into the Darkness Trailer – “We’re Going to Need a Bigger Boat”

As discussed in Entertainment Weekly’s magazine this week, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) returns to the big screen as the newly minted captain of the Enterprise.  “The first film was the story of him getting the captain’s seat–this one is the story of him earning it.”  And by the looks of the new trailer, he’s going to have to put in the work.

In this trailer we see a little more of Benedict Cumberbatch’s maybe-Khan-maybe-not bad guy and Kirk’s personal vendetta to take him down.  But there’s a little problem, the Enterprise is no match Cumberbatch’s monster of a ship.  In the trailer, we see a side by side comparison as Cumberbatch says, “You were a pawn, you can’t even guarantee the safety of your own crew.”  Then the unthinkable, the Enterprise is falling from the sky, say it isn’t so!  “No ship should go down without her captain,” says Cumberbatch.  This has got to be a joke, right?

Star Trek: Into the Darkness hits theaters May 17th.  In the meantime, can we talk about how hot Chris Pine looked at this weekend’s MTV Movie Awards?
