The stars of cancelled NBC shows joined Neil Patrick Harris on stage at the Tony Awards on Sunday night to sing an ode to television.  Megan Hilty (Smash), Andrew Rannells (The New Normal), and Laura Benanti (Go On and last year’s The Playboy Club) sang about the “joys” of television and their home, the theater.  Watch the video below.

NBC cancelled an astounding amount of shows from the 2012-2013 line-up this year including:

  • 1600 Penn
  • 30 Rock
  • Animal Practice
  • Deception
  • Do No Harm
  • Go On
  • Guys With Kids
  • The New Normal
  • The Office
  • Ready for Love
  • Rock Center With Brian Williams
  • Smash
  • Up All Night
  • Whitney

With that list, there are very few returning shows for the network.  Among those returning are The Voice, Parks and Recreation, Revolution, Hannibal, Chicago Fire (surprising!), Law and Order: SVU, Parenthood (long live the Braverman clan), and Grimm.  The dark drama, Hannibal is still in limbo.  What is going on at NBC?  Is there any hope for this network? Only time will tell.  For now, Broadway (and the rest of the world) is laughing, might as well join in.
