“Out Among the Stars” by Johnny Cash

March 25, 2014

I can admit that I’m not a huge country fan, but boy do I love me some Johnny Cash. I was thrilled when it was announced last year that John Carter Cash, son of the late Johnny and June, discovered 12 songs recorded by Johnny Cash in 1981 and 1984. The tracks, which include duets with June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings, have been sitting in a vault forgotten for the past thirty years and have never been released to the public.

Pharrell Williams

In 2013, Pharrell simultaneously held the #1 and #2 song on Billboard’s Top 100, was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, and released the first-ever 24 hour music video. All of that was done without releasing a new album. But America heard plenty of the Man Who Never Ages in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” and on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Can you imagine what will happen in 2014 when Pharrell releases his own album from Columbia Records? The new album will drop later this year and will include “Happy,” the single from Despicable Me 2.

Betty Who

When her single ‘Somebody Loves You’ was featured in the viral Home Depot Proposal, her song took off at a rapid pace. Once released, it debuted at #44 on iTunes and at #4 on Spotify. She was quickly signed to RCA records in September and has been tour and in the studio ever since. In the meantime, her EP ‘The Movement’ is available on Spotify and for download on iTunes.

It was recently confirmed by Adele’s publicist that she has been working on her third album, a follow up to 2011’s 21, which is officially the first album to sell over 3 million digital copies. Naturally, expectations are high for this next album. Adele is reportedly working with Kid Harpoon, James Ford, William Orbit, and Ryan Tedder.

New Music Alert – Cassadee Pope

Ladies and gentlmen, Cassadee Pope has arrived.

The Season 3 winner, and Blake Shelton prodigy, returned to the stage that made her famous on Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice.  Cassadee Pope performed a new single off of her much-anticpated forthcoming album entitled “Wasting All These Tears” in front of her presumably proud former coaches.

The 23-year old Florida native looked a little nervous, but seemed to really come into her own as the song progressed.  Her performance (which can you watch below) was quite the production, and full of emotion, as it seems like The Voice star only knows how to go big or go home.  And Cassadee looked gorgeous in a silver-glittery frock and heel ensemble as she waded through the misty fog.

It seems like Cassadee is approaching music in a genre all of her own as her song is a true hybrid – an upbeat tempo mix of pop-rock with a blend of country.  It’s catchy and fun to sing along to, and it doesn’t hurt that its break-up theme is relatable for thousands of girls across the country.  Cassadee has a ton of potential to shake things up in music.   Her Avril-esque voice and bridges are refreshing, and I think we are on the verge of watching a true star emerge.

Cassadee’s new album is supposed to drop later this year.  RPW will keep you posted.

The Voice is one proud parent.

Check out Cassadee and a ton of other featured artists including Fitz and the Tantrums, Fall Out Boy, the cast of Nashville, T-Minus productions, and more on our Weekly Rock Spotify Playlist & be sure to subscribe!

New Music! Snoop Lion & Miley

NEW ROCK! – Snoop Lion released his new single, Ashtrays and Heartbreaks featuring Miley Cyrus, yesterday. The reggae-flavored track from his upcoming album “Reincarnated” (Look for it in stores April 23!) also features percussion by Stewart Copeland of The Police. The song was produced by Major Lazer and Ariel Rechtshaid and co-produced by Dre Skull. And, we’re not going to lie, we kind of love this single!! You can listen to it below:

Given the new taste of Snoop’s music, and his sudden change of moniker, we are guessing his new album will be a raggae-inspired treat. We also know that our favorite ex-Disney star, Miley Cyrus, is working on new music with the likes of Pharrel and Dr. Luke. Her new album promises to take Miley in a new direction, leaving her Disney days behind her. The release date for that is still not set but we’ll keep you posted as details about the new album break.

So what do you guys think? Are you digging the new song as much as we are? Do you like the new and improved Snoop Lion? How do you feel about Miley’s new look and sound?

We’re not sure what we think, but after all, She’s Just Being Miley!
